Harpenden East, St Albans Local Elections
Harpenden born and raised, St George's educated, and not going anywhere. I am a training teaching assistant with experience within the pensions sector, meaning that I am well aware of the two major concerns for the average individual: what will happen to their future, and what will happen to the next generation's future. Within the last twelve months, I have volunteered my time to the Harpenden Trust, working alongside many others to raise money and ensure that those people in our community who most need it get help. This has made it very clear to me just what matters to this community and just where its needs lie When running for council in 2022-23, I was able to secure 26% of the vote with my first attempt at campaigning. From this, I gained an insight into the needs of this community, learning that the residents believe in a town where doing business is possible, a valued greenbelt, and a thriving high street. This is what I am trying to protect. However, I also feel that there must be honesty – Harpenden needs to remain a town where the next generation can flourish and build their lives. Our council is chronically under-represented when it comes to younger voices, and I'd like to change that — not to replace the experience already round the table, but to sit alongside it.
